The Best Winter Activities in Quinte

Just because winter is here doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to see and do in the Quinte area. Here are some of the best winter activities in Quinte you can take part in to make the most of the winter season.

Outdoor Recreation

Enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities by visiting one of the many trails that are a part of the Eastern Ontario Trails Alliance. These trails will allow you to take part in cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ATV riding, snowshoeing and horseback riding. Permits are required for motorized vehicles.

Some of the best bird watching in Ontario can also be enjoyed in the Bay of Quinte region. An excellent place for bird watching is Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory, which is located on Price Edward Point and covers more than 460 hectares. Originally established to monitor bird migrations, it has since been declared a Globally Important Birding Area.

The waterfront near Belleville can also be a great place to visit during the winter. Fishing tournaments take place throughout the year, and individuals are also encouraged to enjoy ice fishing. If you love to ski and can’t steal yourself away to Mont Tremblant or Whistler why not take in the slopes at Batawa Ski hill… our local hidden gem tucked nicely into Quinte West easily accessible from the 401!

Activities

If colder weather leaves you longing for indoor activities, you’ll still find there are plenty of things to see and do. The Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre provides public swimming on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The region is also home to two hockey teams: the Picton Pirates and Wellington Dukes. Watching either of these two teams play is a great way to spend time with the family during the winter.

Prince Edward County is known as a shopper’s paradise, thanks to its unique boutiques. These shops have everything from designer label clothing and accessories to hand-crafted gifts from many of the locals. You can also visit a number of galleries to see the works of local artists on display, or browse through one of the many antique stores that are housed inside historic structures.

Belleville and Quinte West are home to many indoor skating opportunities visit Quinte West Skating Rinks and the Belleville Skating Rinks for tons of indoor skating fun!
