Hillcrest (Stoney Lonesome)

Your affordable neighbourhood where there is something for everyone

Ah Hillcrest, known locally as “Stoney Lonesome.” When a neighbourhood is named after an early 20th century slang term for prison, you might be leery about what you’ll find there. But with a good mix of new and older homes, including a few subdivisions, and easy access to a local sports and wellness centre, there’s little reason to want to break out of this neighbourhood.
Located between North Front Street and University Avenue, and from Bell Boulevard/Adam Street south to College Street, Hillcrest was historically home to lower income housing. Nestled next to an industrial park, it had a reputation for being a rougher part of town. But Hillcrest has gone through a fairly profound change over the past few decades that has turned it into one of the best neighbourhoods in terms of value for your dollar.
With a mix of families, renters, and retirees calling Stoney Lonesome home, this neighbourhood has benefitted tremendously from the energy surrounding the new Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre. Ice rinks, pools, fitness and gym areas, and community spaces make this part of town a hub of activity.
If you’re longing for some fresh air, Hillcrest has several beautiful parks in its borders, including Belleville’s Skate Park. The trails along the banks of the Moira River are also a perfect place to enjoy a stroll.
With easy access to the 401 and uptown shopping along Bell Street and a range of affordable housing options, Hillcrest (Stoney Lonesome) is one Belleville’s hidden gems just awaiting you to discover it.
